Plenty of Action Promised When Weber College Tartars Weeks From Tonight Plenty of gridiron action may be expected when the powerful Comp-ton college Tartars tangle October 24 at the Ogden stadium with the Wildcat team that is considered the best produced by Weber in several years. The Compton eleven enters the 1947 conference season boasting what the experts call the top junior college football record for the past two years. Coached by Raymond Brown, the Tartars chalked up nine wins out of ten games last season, climaxing the year's schedule with a 19-0 victory over Kilgore, Texas, to capture the Metropolitan conference title in the "Little Rose Bowl" classic. The Tartars meet Weber with four of a ten-game series behind them, having competed against San Diego Naval Training Center, San Diego; Vallejo college, Vallejo; Long Beach City college, Compton, and Phoenix college, Compton. Coach Brown has met with suc cess in the use of his new backfield system, employed for the first time this year. A variation of the standard T formation, Brown's "AT" lineup places the quarterback over the center and to the side, with the other three backs lined up m a reg ular single wing to either side. This system was developed to permit the fullest usage of Comp ton s light, fast backfield. The Tartars have 27 of theirconference-winning lettermen returning to varsity competition this year, headed by fullback John Finney, who was voted southern California junior college "player of the year" for 1946. Brown also boasts three tough lines, spearheaded by nine of the first two strings of 1946. His tactics have been to rotate the personnel of the forward wall constantly throughout his games.
