Show OUR PENSION ROLL. Commissioner Evans's Report Gives the Amount at 8138,355,052. Washington, Sept. 2. The annual report of Hon. II. Clay Evans, commissioner commis-sioner of pensions, shows that during the year there were added to the pension pen-sion roll 40,229 names and 43.1S6 were dropped, 34,315 of these by reason of death. There was expended for pensions 5138,355,052. The annual value of the : entire pension roll amounts to $131,-619,901, $131,-619,901, being SG49,496, more than it was, due to the higher average annual value of the pensions. The roll is ' made up of 753,451 surviving soldiers, 237,415 widows and dependant relatives and 673 nurses. The total number of original applications appli-cations filed during the year, including includ-ing those on account of the war with Spain, was 43,765. The number of original claims allowed was 37,077. During the year 109,819 claims of all classes were rejected, a large percentage percent-age of these being claims for increase. |
