Show FROM IOWA. EI.ilEP. JOHN' 1', I". VTTV Of TO- qitki:viii.,k -writes pi;o: I'UK MISSION riV-Ll). Ed., Washington Coti-ctv Xr.vs. Dear Brother: As I h,ave changed my Held of labor, and being desirous of having my county paper follow me, 1 take the opportunity of addressing you, As some of the members of the Reorganized Re-organized Church, at Lamoui, Iowa, appealed to the president of our mission mis-sion at Chicago to have come cf our eiders sent there, and knowing chat I had relatives of that faith there, Pres. Kclsch called me from St. Louis to the Iowa conference to labor. I left St. Louis January 21th and went by way of Kauvoo, as I was desirous of vUiting those places of so much historic his-toric interest to us. I visited all the old residences, the Temple site. Mansion Man-sion House, and, in common with the customs of a "Mormon'' elder, took in all that was to be seen. After staying at Js'auvoo tho greater part of one day and a night, I vyalked to Carthago, a distance of twenty-two miles. Here I visited the old jail, going in, around, and getting all the information I could in regard to tho terrible deed that was committed there, when we lost our beloved be-loved Prophet and his brother. I stayed in Carthage over night, and on the morrow myself and companion had our photos taken with the old jail as a background, I bade my companions good-by and started for Winterset, Iowa, via Mont-iiose. Mont-iiose. When I got to Dcs Moines I joined Pres. Kelsch, who was on his y. ay to our conference. . We held our conference in Winterset on January 27th and 28th, in tho Opera house, with a very good attendance considering consider-ing the eold weather. After our conference, con-ference, I was assigned to labor in Jasper Co. with Bro. Day, of Hunter, Salt Lake Co., as my companion; and thus I am here. I have paid my relatives one visit, being treated very kindly, and I live in hopes of accomplishing, accomp-lishing, with the help of the Lord, much good in this county. The work of the Lcvd is in a prosperous condition iu this conference, and the elders are working with a will. I will close for this time aa I have written to you so much that I am afraid you will think I am trying to monopolise your time, but, dear brother, I am so thankful for the county paper, and I feel lost yhpn I miss one number. Please change my address from St. Louis to Colfax, Jasper Co., Iowa. I assure you that I appreciate your kindness in sending the paper, and I wish you, success with it in every particular,. With best wishes to yourself and all, I remain your Bro., Elder Jonj T. Batx-y. |
