Show KRUCER'S POSITION. Hunt Make South ATrloa Free or the White Man's Grave. Chicago, Oct. , 13. The following cablegram has been received by the Chicago Tribune from President Kru-ger Kru-ger of the Transvaal republic. The cablegram was sent in answer to a message requesting a statement of the position of the Transvaal in the present pres-ent crisis: "Pretoria, Oct. 12, 1889. Through the Tribune we wish to thank our many American friends for sympathy in the present crisis of the republic. We gave England forty-eight hours' notice within which to give assurance that the dispute will be settled by arbitration ar-bitration or other peaceful means. The notice expires at 5 today. The British agent is recalled, and war is certain. This is the fitting end of the British policy of force and fraud which has marked all South Africa free or the white man's grave. The republic's friends include all nationalities, among them a strong American corps, showing it is not a case of Boer against Utland-er, Utland-er, but all natious against the English. We have full faith in freedom and republicanism, re-publicanism, in the righteousness which guides the destinies of nations. PBK81DEST Kritoer." |
