In ohodience to a call of the priesthood priest-hood cf God, I left my home in Buukev-ville Buukev-ville on the 31st ox October, ISPS, to join the faithful soldiers in the battle for ;he cause of truth in the Southwestern South-western States mission. .1 arrived in Sale- Lake November Till, and remained there until the 10th, when I was ordained or-dained a seventy and set apart for jay missio-i. After two days riding oa the train we arrived at St. John, Kansas, where we met some elders and Saints, and after two days visit with them I took the train, in company with Elder Iliggins of St. George, for Texas, where we arrived on the Kith. On the 17th we received our first introduction in-troduction to the ''Grip and umbrella railroad" for twenty miles, where we met with the elders and Saints of the Torth Texas conference, and "enjoyed a spiritual feast for three das; after which I was assigned to labor with Elder W. N. Hodges in Collin county, where for four months we experienced some of the ups and downs of missionary mission-ary life. Oa the lfith. and 16th we again met and partook of the Spiritual blessings and the hospitality of the good people of Rockwall county. The first principles prin-ciples of the Gospel were explained, and the elders gave faithful testimonies of its restoration in all its power and perfection. At the close, we received many good instructions from Pres. W. T. jack, which brought me to. a realisation real-isation of the responsibility that rested upon me as a servant of God in laying the Gospel before the people and leaving leav-ing all without an excuse, so thai in the morning of the resurrection their sins could not be charged to me. I was then assigned to labor in Cook county with Elder Y". IT. Ueaton, and e went forth with determination to do our duty and not rest satisfied short of doing it. We labored together for five and a half months, receiving ail kinds of treatment, good, bad and indifferent; in-different; and as a reward of our labors in that county so far there has been four holiest souls buried in the watery grave and raised to a newness of life, so we feel well paid for all of our labors in that part of the country. I tun now called from that part to labor as assistant assis-tant to the President of our conference, W. N. Hodges of Garden. City, Utah. I have not written what I thought to when I commenced writing, but as this letter is getting quite lengthy I will close for this time. Yvishing you success suc-cess with your valuable little paper, which has been a welcome visitor through Elder J. L. Workman, who has now returned home: and invoking the blessings of the Lord on all the good people of the West, I remain your brother in the cause of truth, P. S. LrAYtTT, Lane, Hunt Co., Texas, Sept.
