Show The Baltimore and Ohio South Western Rail Road placed in service several months ago five large ten-wheel ten-wheel compound passenger engines for use on fast trains between Cincinnati and St. Louis. The performance of these engines has been eminently satisfactory sat-isfactory and up to the highest expectation. expec-tation. The same line has also in service ser-vice 50 consolidation compound freight engines which provide ample power for the entire line in addition to wln.i was already in use. The compound engines were an experiment b;:t hard service has proved that they are en tlrely successful and show a su-ing o 15 per cent in fuel as compared with simple engines of the same type. Exhaustive Ex-haustive tests were made with both the simple and compound locomotive, before the order for the entire lot was placed with the result vastly in favo, of the compound locomotives. |
