Show CONTEST IN KENTUCKY. Both rartlcsC'lalm the Kleotlon and Charg the Other with Fraud. Louisville, Ky., Nov. 11. A confusion of claims and counter claims to quiet which the official count, or perhaps a contest before the Legislature, will be necessary, is all that is left of Tuesday's Tues-day's election. Above it all vehement cries of fraud, committed or contemplated, contem-plated, are heard. Each side claims the election of its ticket by a plurality of about 1000, and presents figures to back up the claim. The figures in some counties vary widely, and it is impossible to tel! which side, if either, has accurn te returns. Chairman Long of the Republican campaign committee when asked for an estimate of the vote on the gubernatorial guberna-torial race, said: "I have no estimate to give, but I can furnish the actual figures. On the face of the returns Taylor's plurality is 4136. All the precincts pre-cincts have been heard from. Twelve counties are not official, including the returns from Ivcnton and Breathitt," A special from Frankfort quotes Gov. Bradley as saying, "Taylor has been elected by at least 10,000 majority, and he will be tho next Governor of Kentucky." Ken-tucky." On the other hand returns from Democratic sources show a plurality on the face of the returns of about 2000 for Goebel. This they claim is to be affected by returns from some missing precincts where the Democrats can hardly do worse than break even. Mr. Goebel and Senator Blackburn, in interviews in-terviews at Frankfort, openly charged the Republicans with fraud. The indications point strongly to a contest before the legislature, which there seems no reasonable doubt, will be controlled by the Democrats. How they will view the election can not be foretold. |
