Show NEED N1CARAGUAN CANAL. Admiral Schley Says Its Building is Imperative. Im-perative. Chattanooga, Teun., Nov. 14. A correspondent cor-respondent of the Huntsvilie Mercury, while at Birmingham, asked Admiral Schley if he thought the building oi the Nicaraguan canal would be an advantage ad-vantage to the United States. Admiral Schley is quoted as saving: "I consider it imperative that th canal be built. It would enable us to mobilize our fleet on either coast on short notice, and would facilitate out defense in ease of war and render the American navy invincible. And then it would open up the way tojthe Orient, where a ready market can be found for our cotton, iron and coal.'' |
