Guilfoyle, post commander. They reported a tight between the sheepmen and the Indians on Rock creek, about forty miies from here. They say that an Indian by the name of Mountain Sheep was killed. Olsen says that when he left the sheepmen and the Indians were still fighting. Olsen was locked up in the guardhouse. The Mexican was taken to the hospi- tar, naving- ueen wounded in the arm. Lieut. Young left this morning with a detachment of sixty soldiers for the scene of the trouble. It is feared here that the soldiers will arrive too late to prevent serious trouble, as there are only six white men there and about twenty-five Indians. Everything is quiet here, and at White Rocks there are oniy thirty soldiers sol-diers left in the post. A warrant has been issued charging Olsen with murder. Mountain Sheep was a chief and an important man in the tribe. |
