Show REPUBLICANS AT SALT LAKE. Delejates to the National Convention Se-let Se-let -tril-Krtulu t.om .Adopted. The Repuplieau state convention of Utah was held at Salt Lake May 10th, to select delegates to the national convention. con-vention. The following were selected: C. I-;. Loose, Thomas Kearns, Arthur Brown, George Sutherland, Heber M. Wells, George M. Hanson. Alternates Ephraim Homer, W. H. Clark, E. P. Ellison, John Meteer. S. 11. Love, Mrs. W. H. Jones. A rule was adopted shutting out proxies unless the person holding the proxy was a res: dent, of ths county I was entitled to representation. The rule shut out Emery, Kane, San Juan -and Wayne counties, as none of the delegates dele-gates of those counties wen present, and the proxies, seventeen in number, held by Salt Lake citizens, could not be voted. In the., case of other counties, the vote was not interfered with, as each delegation, whether full or not, was permitted to cast the total vote of its county. W. D. Livingston of San Pete county was temporary -chairman and John E. Booth permanent chairman. The resolutions adopted pledged the delegates to vote for the reuomination of McKinley, congratulates the miner, stock-raiser, merchant and farmer on Increased prices, and the laborer on increased wages and opportunity to work, rejoices in the passage of the Dingley act, glories in the triumph, of the Spanish war, asks for a law against trusts, favors both gold and silver for money, and approaches ex-ultingly ex-ultingly the coming campaign, oonfi-deut oonfi-deut of success; relying upon the intelligence, in-telligence, the sense of justice and the gratitude of the men and women of Utah, never for a moment believing that appeals of the gospel of discontent to the baser instincts of men, or the plea of dishonor to the flag', can prevail. |
