Show HONORED PIONEER IS CRIO 01 BUTH mrs aire ann cannon woodbury widow of the late orin N woodbury who died in 1891 passed peacefully away in her year monday july 26 25 at the home of her eldest daudt ter mrs eleanor C jarvis in athla city she bad had been in tailing falling health for the past two or three years mrs woodbury was the mother of ten children eight ot of whom survive as follows mrs eleanor 0 jarvis annie al romney john T woodbury leonora C worthen alice C harmon and clara E sylvester all ot of st george and frank B woodbury of salt lake city and angus C woodbury of fairview idaho her two oldest sons orin and george died atter after reaching manhood each leaving families mrs woodbury though ot of manx lineage was born in liverpool jan 28 1832 she was a sister ot of the late presidents george Q and angus at cannon also of president david H cannon ot of the st george temple and a niece ot of the late president john taylor whose wife leonora was her fathers sister baptised baptized sed in england at the age ot of 8 years she came to nauvoo when 11 years old and her mother having been burled buried at sea during the voyage and her father having soon thereafter died she was taken into the family of her uncle and aunt taylor and with them came to utah in 1817 being thus a pioneer of the first season in the valley she became the wife of orin N woodbury in 1853 and went with him in 1861 on the dixie mission being thus a pioneer of st george also where she has resided ever since she was one of the first to become actively edgag en in the silk industry and made a success of it as was also the case with bee culture at the organization of the primary association in southern utah in 1880 she was chosen one of the presidency and in 1888 1885 she was selected as counselor in the stake relief society presidency becoming president in 1895 and occupying that position until 1306 1906 when she was honorably released on account of falling failing health during all these years she was a devoted worker in the st george temple and in her labors in connection with the auxiliary associations she traveled thousands of miles by team over the roughest of roads besides making two trips to mexico to visit her daughter besides her children her other living posterity include 73 grandchildren and over 90 great grandchildren slater sister woodbury was as a woman of noble character typical of the pioneer stock that settled utah coming to dixie with the pioneers she went through the hardships incidental to its early settlement with cheerfulness and fortitude and was ever ready to do her part in helping others bear the vicissitudes of those hard times she was genial cheerful and bright up to the last and never complained funeral services will be held this afternoon in the stake tabernacle |
