| Show arlit WAY AVANTS A GOOD ROAD TO zion national park ludm june 21 editor washington county hews news dear sir since I 1 had no opportunity at the road convention held in hurricane last saturday to explain my position toward the proposed road it may not be amass for me to do eo so through the columns of your paper if you think this communication worthy of space after reading it because I 1 have been advertising a 0 trip from lund to grand canyon and return to lund via panguitch Pan gultch in stead of via hurricane either going or coming I 1 fear the impression has obtained that I 1 am unfavorable to the hurricane route therease Ther eare two reasons why I 1 hava have done this the first that the salt laka lake railroad desired to compete with the trip advertised by the bowmans of chanab kanab of at a trip from marysvale Marys vale to ana androni from the grand canyon the second reason Is because of the bitter experience I 1 had last summer in going from hurricane to kanab with nay my own car hence I 1 bad had decided we ws could not run a stage line of good cars over this hurricane to fre donla road it Is well known that the Ti distance stancO la Is miles greater from zion park to grand canyon via panguitch Pan gultch than that via hurricane this shows that the effect of using the trip advertised or referred to above would cut out our chances of getting tourists on auch such trip for zion a t all I 1 think it will be readily seen that no to one person could be more interest edn ed it having pe he road from hurl cane cans to kanab made comfortably passable than myself this done I 1 would certainly use the road for one way travel at least I 1 am now putting before the tourist public a trip to include all three of these wonderful utah and arizona parks bryce grand canyon and zion pirk park which will use the kanab to hurricane road I 1 think this makes my attitude and interest in this road improvement clear I 1 also wanted to urge upon the people of hurricane the importance of a larger up to date hotel hotl it is too much tor for tourists to come from kanab to zion camp in one day we ve would also advise tourists to go from here to hurricane to stay over night on way to grand canyon tor for the same reason I 1 also meant to suggest the erection on of a platform with railing near the road on top of the mountain above hurricane where is to ba seen the most wonderful aud and refreshing view of their town and valley to be found anywhere would suggest a large sign at road side at thia this point a parody on the common railway crossing sign of stop look listen to read stop look Loo linger kLinger then at the platform proposed a large sign with a hand pointing toward the town towns reading hurricane her gates swing in push 11 very respectfully submitted by W NV wylie |
