Show FORA RAILROAD mass meetings of citizens held to confide proposition of utah grand canyon ry co A mass mooting meeting of citizens nas as held in the lyceum monday night to hear bear a proposition from the promoters of the utah grind canyon railroad company the officers of the washington county commercial club took charge of the meeting pres leo A snow in the chair the hall was crowded with an interested audience victor E huntzicker of the utah LL grand canyon railroad company explained the route oer which it was proposed to build and submitted a proposition that the people of washington county agree to purchase bonds to be issued by the railroad company to the extent of bonds to be of the value of bearing five fhe per cent in terest A form of contract was read by mr huntzicker the terms of which were that the amount subscribed would not bo be called for until the railroad nag completed to bellevue when thirty days notice would be given various objections were made to the wording of the contract and mr huntzicker Huntzi cLer agreed to change it as desired and submit the nen form of contract to a mass meeting to be held tuesday night at the eime sime time and place a committee of three composed of I 1 C macfarlane D H morns morris and john T woodbury being appointed by the chairman to meet with mr huntzicker and draw up a satisfactory satis factor contract the matter of free rights of wai over private grounds nas as then brought before the meeting by mr huntzicker and tho the fol follow loning ing resolution was offered by mr D H morns morris and unanimously carried bo be it resolved by the residents and citizens of st george utah in mass meeting asem assembled bled this day of december 1910 that in consideration sideri tion of the construction of said railroad line by said utah grand canyon railroad company a free right of flay nay for said railroad line through said washington county where said line shall croaa cross or extend over lands and premises owned by private individuals corporations or associations and also all necessary depot and ground or premises in said washington county which are not at the time of the construction of said railroad line situated upon the public domain of the united states at a meeting held tuesday night sir mr I 1 C macfarlane reported that the committee appointed to meet with mr huntzicker Huntzi cLer to draw up a form of contract that would bo be acceptable cep table had bad drawn up ano forms of agreement one whereby the citizens agree to buy bonds to the extent of on completion of the line to bellevue the other agreeing to pay a bonus of in cash on completion of the railroad to st george after being read and disca discussed sed mr J T woodbury moved that it bo be the tho sense of the citizens present that they accept the proposition to purchase o bonds the motion was seconded mr H J doolittle offered an amendment that the citizens present accept both contracts that for bonds and that for bonus a proportionate amount of each being optional with the people seconded the motion as amended was unanimously aninious ani ly Var earned ried mr jamesf andrus that the commercial club take this matter up and appoint committees to carry it through seconded and carried unanimously |
