Show SANTA FE engineers surveying route from chloride north to st george rich in minerals rals gold butte chirk county nov A dec 11 late in november a party of surveyors pit awed ed through this camp coining in from the south and heading a little cast of north fro from in here moving toward bunkerville Bun kerville they were working rapidly and absolutely sol nothing could bo be learned from khem at that time there were seven men in the party and the outfit they had bad wag was first class in every respect early in the present month after being gone gope about two weeks the game same party returned working more leisurely and evidently checking UD up on fprmer notes the two engineers were as closemouthed as before but two of the lineman visited your representatives camp one evening and from them a few particulars were learned a ery cry few they had start started edat at chloride anz ariz running almost a straight line from there through the sacramento valley talley and on to bonillas Bon illis crossing of tho the colorado river distance of about eighty miles thence the course led directly through gold butte passing on about twelve miles to the east of bunkerville Bun kerville and mesquite and thence to st george utah a total distance of about miles from chloride at this point in answer to a question one of the men said leq of course we are working for a railroad company but cannot tell vou you which one nor give you the engineers 6 names for the facts might get into print and it will cost all of us our jobs oba in fact weve talked too much already and something might have reached tho the all right but it may not be amiss to r review e the country through which such a line would dass it would v ith the branch laeh of tho the santafe santa jfe at chloride coming north it would first tap the mineral resources at tit white hills hill I 1 about halfway half balf way between the starting foint and the nver river meaning an immediate resumption of activity in that district and freight both nas it is 13 scarcely necessary to mention hero here the scenic attractions of the colorado river country nor the drawing power it would have for tourists toun sta the phase has been written up by every nen newspaper shaper in the southwest during the past year at bonillas Bon illis hs there is a solid rock bottom in crossing crossi cros Dg the nver river locally it is said that thi this s is 13 the only solid crossing within two hundred miles and we might mention in passing it is also reported that the santa fe has had possession of this his point for years 4 on the river are the colorado placers the dutchman and the lucky boy belonging to cox and brooks both properties of splendid possibilities the finance the lincoln mining group and other ground less iv nell ell known but capable of producing if a birket were open to them from there into and beyond gold butte the mining properties occur with a regularity that is surprising and many of them would bo be shippers almost immediately among these are the pro properties petties around mineral hill and bonillas Bon illis peak the showing in the fairbanks ground at fall and cataract springs the salt deposits fire miles from irom the the gold and copper properties in cedar basin including the scott alien allen and early bird groups the winona i the crawford ground etc in gold butto butte proper the possibilities bili ties of future production offered by the of the sharp and nevada gold butte properties arc are at least promising hero here also is vi the ground of the southern nevada cop coe per company and within six miles are the mines of copper city no doubt gold butto butte will bo be used as a regular station and watering point because of the ideal townsite to and pure water found here another thing thi this s is destined to become a great cattle country in the not distant future moving northward and almost in a line for st george we find a country rich in agricultural as nell ell a mineral resources most of the freight for and from the great fruit producing muddy valley section would come this way it being within a less distance than the railroad to the west and the entire production along the virgin river around bunkerville Bun kerville mesquite littlefield tle field etc would go to the new line there being no outlet for this at present within a few years the farming in that section would be increased tenfold the proposed route la ia within six miles of the grand gulch property which is keeping sixteen outfits busy hauling ore sixty miles to the railroad of course it will mean a greatly increased tonnage when their medium and lower grades gradei can be handled besides the grand gulch the savannie Sa copper mountain cunningham copper etc will be brought within sixteen miles or less of the new now line it is claimed that all of these can ship just as the first named is doing but prefer to husband their resources until the time that a railroad will give them a fair profit on their production farther north are tho the key west darling and thompson black warrior and apex properties all of which made a struggle against adverse conditions and finally had bad to close because of the long wagon haul tho the farming possibilities around santa clara and st george require no mention here nor do the iron and coal fields to the north the mining review |
