Show MINES ARE IDLE railroad would start activity and many properties would be big shippers that frank A dudley of niagara falls and associates will begin active operations in early spring on the proposed railway from marysvale Marys vale opening up many rich mining distri districts et s from there through southern I 1 utah and southern nevada to searchlight is the firm opinion of H J doolittle general manager of tho the old dixie mine eighteen miles liast of st george who was in this city yesterday this will open up the silver reef district eighteen miles east of st george will proe a boon to the virgin oil field should pass near our old dixie mine about eighteen miles west of st george would piss pigs close to the key west mine and open up the bunker hill district would cut twenty five miles off the grand gulch and open oien up many good prospects and a greit deal of promising mineral territory along the route said mr doolittle the silver reef district has produced millions in its day but the handicap of a long expensive haul has kept this part of the state in the biel ground the same maa ma be said of the old dixie mine which because of no railroad facilities being over fifty miles distant has been closed down for three airs this property has a complete smelter which was operated for borne some time but on account of tho the expense of retting getting in fuel and other supplies it was closed do down n indefinitely the advent adient of this railroad will witness the kindling of its fires and the starting of the wheels in motion the dixie mine has attained a vertical depth of 1300 feet in some of its corkings nor v kings it la is essentially a copper proposition much of the the ore being high grade ten per cent and better there are tire now in bight over tons of good high grade copper at the key rev west at bunker hill which la it a nickel platinum tion it has bag been clemed dinned they have tons of ore blocked out worth from 10 to 25 two tino miles from froin here is a big lead prospect which gai gives es promise of den development elop ment into something on a contact between the lime and the granite grante 11 said to show a vast deposit of lime shot full of lead this oro ore deposit has never neier been sunk on or developed more than a few feet from the surface sir mr doolittle sils the glenn col usa company with dad hastings in charge of the work has attained a depth of 2500 2600 feet in its oil well near the gould ranch eight miles south of virgin the drilling has been in hard sand for feet recently sir hastings said the prospects of getting oil are very good no casing is required they are still drilling at last account this thi i one well has probably cost the command from to california people are back of tho the enterprise and deserve great credit for their pluck and at present there are less than half hill a dozen wells in the virgin district producing oil or in shape for production the entire output of the district which is inactive at present is probably ten to twenty five barrels a day from a conversi conversation tion had with frank A dudley a few das ago mr doolittle said he be was told that satisfactory arrangements had already been won made by mr dudley with the traffic departments of the denver rio grande and sant i fe railroads and that now mr air dubley is in los angeles to bee the offic lils of the salt lake route this h iving proven satisfactory the three branch route will be broken in the spi ing connecting with the thod D ar R G at marysvale Marys vale with the salt lake route at lund and with the sint fe at searchlight which will piove giove a wound erful impetus in opening up new mining teri tory and in infusing new life into the old camps mentioned above ilerda her dd republican |
