Show Dixie College News More than S200 was cleared by the Dixie College Scholarship Drive committee at the carnival in the Recreation hall last Friday night. A large variety of concessions conces-sions had been arranged and all were patronized liberally. Miss Elna Gardiner was chairman of the committee in charge. She now turns over the responsibility to Dean Webb, who will head the committee during the winter quarter. D.J.C. Ten students were formally accepted ac-cepted into the Omega Delta club, speech fraternity, last Thursday night. They are: Joyce Kelley. Delta; Sheldon Edwards, Para-gonah; Para-gonah; and Mona Cox, David Finlayson, Jessie Jane Gibbons. Hilma Schmutz, Walter Snow, Virgie Goates, Jack Crosby and Donald Truman, all of St. George. D. J. C. J. W. McAllister, director of the community oratorio, "The Nativity", announces the personnel! person-nel! of two of the ensembles. Four school instructors will sing in the male quartet, and three of this group in a male trio. They are Ray Garner, Charles N. Merk-ley, Merk-ley, B. Glenn Smith and Leland Lamoreaux. The oratorio chorus is practicing practic-ing each Monday, Wednesday and Saturday evening at 7 o'clock. Those participating are thrilled with the beautiful music of .the oratorio, and the public is insured a treat on Sunday evening, Dec. 19, when the musical will be given. D.J.C. The college faculty enjoyed a chicken supper last Friday evening eve-ning in the Science building, with H. L. Reid, John L. Clarke, Ralph Huntsrnan and Mrs. Hannah Wells in charge. Following the luncheon the group attended the Victory Carnival, Carni-val, where M. J. Miles proceeded to win the coveted turkey. D. J.C. Supt. Milton E. Moody, Pres. Glenn E. Snow and Principal Newell R. Frei attended the inspection in-spection trip of Topaz relocation center in Millard county by school officials Wednesday. A meeting was discussed in which problems pertaining to inter-school relationships. It is likely that programs will be exchanged ex-changed between the Japanese students and students in this section. sec-tion. D. J. C. Two airplane propellers, a Curtis Cur-tis electric and hydraulic are but a small part of the equipment scheduled to arrive at Dixie in the near future for the course in aircraft maintenance. The course is to be given at the airport, and transportation to class will be provided students enrolled. There is still room for more students in this course, states Earl Cottam, who is organizing organ-izing the class. One of the planes to be used for repair work is one that was wrecked some time ago. It and another plane are now being rebuilt. re-built. D. J. C. The adult education class in municipal problems, under Pres. Glenn E. Snow, Monday considered consid-ered the problems of local juvenile delinquency. Proposals and recommendations rec-ommendations were advanced in an attempt to cope with the situation sit-uation existing in St. George. D. J. C. The Dixie college faculty, in lieu of sending Christmas greeting greet-ing cards to each other this year, are writing letters to former students stu-dents now in the service. A. K Hafen and Miss Myrtle Henderson Hender-son head a committee locating addresses for the teachers. D. J.C. Prospects of having a college basketball team are very dim, states Coach Watts. The college boys who are here, however, he says, will be able to participate in an intramural program. |
