Show i : The (Cg : Trumpeter r ; ; FIRST THINGS COME FIRST ; V; are all conccmod with the news each day from the , Reaches of France, and many of you may maintain that f u row is a p" time to talk politics. But we feel that . our little column should go on each week, and even in limes like these that it may be appropriate to say some of the things we have in mind. Our lys are fighting to guarantee the many thing whlnh, are often summed ui at, "the AinerUn way of life". We feel that there Ls Just as much i mwnn to fight for the same things here at hone, a ; and It would lie a hollow mockery if our boys In ; uniform came home to find that we had lost what they had gone to save. America needs to be stirred! Many of us are most sin-cere sin-cere in our conviction that it is most important that we all m realize what our conditions are at home. We feel that many fundamental principles are at stake, that many of a our most precious rights are already gone, and the need f to call these conditions to your attention is far more im-m im-m portant than the need to elect any particular man or set of men. Two strong parties are essential to our political l economy. We believe every voter should be active In one or the other. We believe the time has long since passed when a voter should feel a. moral g B obligation to keep voting for the party he was born . In. HLs real obligation Ls to determine which party can more nearly achieve what he considers should be achieved, and then to give that party his active allegiance, regardless of how he or his father may ! have voted In the past. 'm Do you realize that the Republican party is the only organized political group in existence in our country which g can check the dangerous excesses of the present adminis- a ,B tration? The conservative, old line Democrats (which we believe includes a majority of the Democrats in our county) have no where else to turn but to the Republican party. i These two groups should join forces if they expect to make ! Iheir opposition to the New Deal effective. ! We hope to conduct our campaign on such a high plane that it will not smack in any way of cheap politics, aj a but on the contrary, that it will appeal to the courage and patriotism of all people who sense, as someone has so aptly said, that "our country will end up in chaos unless ' the present trend toward executive arrogance, financial irresponsibility and class warfare is reversed". (Paid political ad. by Washington County Republican Party) ARTICLE NO. 5 BANK SERVICES Fifth War Loan If Washington county's quota of $225,000 is to be reached, every person, who is able, should buy a bond, and many should invest in the higher denominations. Some of our people anticipate income from agriculture and other sources, which will not be received re-ceived in time for the Fifth War Loan Drive, June 12th to July 8th, 1944. In such cases the Bank of St. George will be happy to make temporary loans at low interest in-terest rates to meet the situation. Interest earnings are of little concern con-cern in this case.
