Show St. George Ward Relief Societies Hold Annual Anniversary Fete The West ward Relief Society held their annual organization birthday anniversary program in their ward hall Tuesday afternoon with Presi-dent' Presi-dent' Margie Dalton in charge. Nettie W. Gardner, Arville B. Ashby and Irene Everett were present as official representatives of the stake Relief Society board. Mrs. Everett presented a violin solo on the program, Ella J. Seegmiller, former stake board secretary gave a detailed and interesting in-teresting history of the organization organiz-ation from its beginning down to the present date, enlarging on the work in St. George. Grant Whitehead, White-head, representing the ward bishopric bish-opric commended the ward organization organ-ization for its accomplishments. Orchestra numbers were provided pro-vided by the WPA orchestra during dur-ing the afternoon. Light refreshments refresh-ments were served to 65, and the eldest women present, Mrs. Hy-rum Hy-rum Leany, 82, was presented with a token of appreciation for her long years in Relief Society work. Center and East Ward Combining for their annual program pro-gram the East and Center wards met in the basement of the stake Tabernacle where brief addresses of welcome were given by the two presidents, Amber T. Schmutz and Emma C. McArthur preceding the program arranged by Juanita Brooks which included assembly singing of, "The Spirit of God Like A Fire Is Burning", prayer, Zora S. Jarvis, and the three-act Relief Society history playlet written writ-ten for the occasion by Mrs. Brooks Musical Program Vocal prelude, "On the Bend of the River", Center ward chorus; Act one, Nauvoo, March 1842, with Cynthia Eldridge, Martha Knight and Sarah Kimball,' depicted de-picted by Fern Seegmiller, Agnes Pickett and Effie Syphus of the West ward, giving the story of the beginning of this first recorded re-corded strictly female civic organ-ation. organ-ation. Vocal solo, "The Earth In Bondage Long Had Lain", Mamie Paxman, East ward, accompanied by Mrs. Bud Seegmiller. Act two, Organization of Relief Society in St. George in May, 1869 with the first president, Anna L. Ivins played by Hazel Moody; Cornelia Branch, Delia Fordham; Hannah Crosby, Ruth Milne; and Grandmother, Anna Taylor. Ladies' trio, "With Heavenly Inspiration", East ward; Juanita McQuaid, Marion Mar-ion Snow and Donna Blake. Act three, Relief Society work in St. George, March 1941, featuring Vida Bennett as the new president, presi-dent, Olive Hirschi and Helen Reichman as visiting teachers. Concluding with singing of the centennial Relief Society theme song, "One Hundred Thousand Strong". There were six stake board members present, also eight women who have served as ward presidents at various times, eight former stake board members, twelve women who were 80 years old or more, including Elizabeth Vaughan Hunt, 92, Mary Alger and Delha Nixon Kelsey, 82, all of whom were Relief Society members as young girls. Red carnations were given all those over 80 and corsages of narcissus to presidents, stake board members mem-bers and other special visitors. Mrs. Zaidee W. Miles and Mrs. Lottie R. Carter both made interesting in-teresting remarks and Mrs. Jane McAllister Moss who has served 31 years as ward and stake Relief Society organist sang, "I Cannot Sing the Old Songs", accompanying accompany-ing herself on the piano.
