Show Conference Speakers Ask Church Members To Live Teachings of Bible Stricter adherance to religious teachings, greater efficiency in Priesthood activities and increased cooperation in the expanding L. D. S. church welfare program were the major topics stressed in the March Quarterly conference of St. George stake held in St. George over Saturday and Sunday. Sun-day. Official visitors for the con-! con-! ference were Albert E. Bowen of the Counsel of Twelve Apostles I and Stringham H. Stevens of the general board of welfare workers. A special session was held for ward bishoprics and welfare com- mittees Saturday afternoon, fol-i fol-i lowed by a Priesthood meeting in the Tabernacle at 7:30 p.m. Director Di-rector Stevens was the main J speaker at the Welfare Board j meeting, while Apostle Bowen j was busy with inspection of the : Temple, Bishop's storehouse and , other business. Snow presided over the general sessions held on Sunday at 10 a. m., and at 2 p. m., in the stake Tabernacle, under direction of Apostle Albert E. Bowen. Brief addresses were given by Stringham A. Stevens, by Counselors Vernon Worthen and William H. Prince of the stake presidency, and by the visiting apostle. All expressed the need under present world conditions of living closer to the teachings of the Master, of honoring the authority au-thority of His priesthood upon the earth and of bending every effort to the program of preparedness prepared-ness as set up in the L. D. S. welfare wel-fare program. Highlighting the morning session ses-sion was the Tabernacle history by H. L. Reid and the presentation presenta-tion of certificates of award to quorums of deacons, teachers and priests of the wards of St. George stake, including groups from the South and Center wards of St. George and the Santa Clara ward. From Santa Clara ward were a group of eight young men who have kept intact as deacons, teachers and priests and received the official awards for meritorious service. Music By Stake Choir Music for the conference ses-, ses-, sions was provided by the stake , choir under direction of Joseph W. McAllister with Seth Harper and Mae A. Pace as accompanists. There were also special numbers from some of the wards, interspersing inter-spersing the addresses. Apostle Bowen expressed himself him-self as deeply appreciative of the work of the Pioneers and of the splendid history of the erection of the stake Tabernacle as reviewed by H. L. Reid 'during the forenoon fore-noon session. Mr. Reid having assembled as-sembled a rich fund of information informa-tion from the various diaries and records to which he has had access. ac-cess. All wards of the stake were well-represented at the conference and appreciation was expressed for the timely instructions given. |
