Arthur Bracken, 71, died at his ; home in St. George Sunday, Nov. 19, at 7 a. m. of complications ' '. following a lingering illness. ; A son of James Bennett and t ' Marjon Whipple Bracken, he was ; born in Pine Valley, Feb. 1, 1873. j His parents were early L. D. S. converts and were called byBrig- - ham Young to Pine Valley to ' assist with the timber mills and cattle raising of Southern Utah. ! He attended school at Pine ; Valley and as he grew to man- t - hood assisted with the mill work, ; farming, freighting and stock raising of that area, following ; these pursuits throughout his life. t ; On Nov. 8, 1897, he married Mahala Gardner of Pine Valley in '. the St. Goerge Temple. They a made their home in Pine Valley I ! until 1906 when he joined with others in settling the farming '. Speakers Were Oliver St rat-ton rat-ton of St. George, former bishop of Central ward, and Up. Malin Cox of Pine Valley ward, xlh of whom have been closely associated associ-ated with Mr. Pracken for many years. They told of his contributions contribu-tions to the building of Central, of his quiet unassuming ways and his work in the church, paying tribute to him and to his family. Prayers were by Linna Snow and Pres. Harold S. Snow and the grave in the Pine Valley cemetery was dedicated by Wayne Gardner of St. George. |
