Show Lieut. Earl Hafen and Bride Visit Here On Surprise 3-Day Furlough An unexpected furlough permitted Lieut. Earl Hafen and his bride, the former Joyce Welker to come to St. George for a three-day stop-over last Thursday over Saturday, Sat-urday, to visit with Mr. Hafen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Hafen and family. Their sister, Miss Elaine Hafen, who has spent the month in Dalhart, Texas, visiting her brother, came home with them. Taking advantage of their visit the groom's parents entertained at open house for the couple in the reception room of the Mc-Quarrie Mc-Quarrie Memorial hall last Friday evening. . More than 100 relatives and friends called during the evening. eve-ning. Bowls of shasta daisies and marigolds were artistically used in room decorations. Meeting guests at the door were the groom's brothers, Ralph and Norman Hafen, Lieut, and Mrs. Hafen and his parents completed com-pleted the receiving line, the bride wearing a tailored suit of white linen with lace insert trim. Her corsage was of flame colored gladioli glad-ioli with baby breath. Miss Elaine Hafen was acting hostess, and gifts were received by the groom's two sisters, Val-rea Val-rea and Gloria Marie. Assisting with serving were Maree Higbee, Maxine Carter, Roma Snow and Virginia McArthur. Music during the evening was in charge of Mrs. Mae A. Pace and included vocal solos by Marion Bowler and Mrs. Mack Jackson; violin solos by Mrs. Ellis Everett and Mrs. Edward Christian, the latter accompanied by Miss Mona Cox; and piano solos by Miss Norma Welker, sister of the bride. The couple left Saturday forenoon fore-noon for Salt Lake City accompanied accom-panied by the groom's' sister, Elaine Hafen, and the bride's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Neilson of Enterprise. They were entertained at dinner in Salt Lake City Saturday evening eve-ning by relatives- of the groom at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Grant Gregerson. From Salt Lake City they went on to Bear Valley, where they were joined by the bride's parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Welker and many other relatives for a family reunion Monday. The couple returned Tuesday to Dalhart, Dal-hart, Texas, were Lieut. Hafen reported at midnight Wednesday for continuation of his training as a bombardier. |
