Show Mrs. Laura A. Gates Dies At Los Angeles Home, Sunday, Aug. 8th Relatives and friends in St. George were advised by telephone Monday of the death in Los Angeles Sunday, Sun-day, Aug. 8, at 4:20 p.m., of Mrs. Laura A. Gates, 71, former St. George resident, who has made her home in Los Angeles for the past ten years. She died at her home at 3930 Roxton avenue, of heart attack, having been afflicted with heart ailment for more than two years and has been bedfast for the past year. Born in Beaver, Utah, Dec. 17, 1872, she was a daughter of John and Sarah Ann. Ball Ashworth, prominent people of that early L. D. S. community. She received her education in Beaver, and visited vis-ited occasionally in St. George with an older sister, the late Mrs. Thomas Judd. During the early 1890's she was Continued on page five) Laura Gates Death (Continued from first page) married to Franklin Gates of St. George, and soon after their marriage mar-riage moved with him to make their home here. He died 20 years ago, leaving her with a small family to provide for. In this connection she was employed for more than 13 years as treasurer treas-urer of the City of St. George, and at the same time served as deputy clerk of Washington county, coun-ty, where her affability and cheer ful service won her many tasnng friendships. Surviving her at the present time are three sons, Frank Gates of Ogden; Clair S. Gates of Tulsa, Okla.; and Cecil Gates of Los Angeles; and four daughters: Mrs, Bert Riding of Ogden; Mrs. Stewart Stew-art Knowlton of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Tom Eddington; and Mrs Don Bleak, both of Los Angeles Funeral services for Mrs. Gates are being held this (Thursday) afternoon at Pierce Brothers mortuary, Los Angeles, and interment inter-ment will be in Los Angeles. |
