Show Organization Perfected To Fight Fires In Washington County - By CHARLES F. RORK A meeting of the forest and fire fighters' service was held May 2 in the St. George post office to organize all available resources for fighting and preventing fires. The county was divided up into fire areas. A federal or state official of-ficial was selected to be responsible respon-sible for taking initial action in the suppression of any fires reported re-ported in his area. All fire fighting fight-ing equipment, per diem guards, and hazard areas were tabulated on a map available in the Sheriff's office. It was pointed out that too frequently fre-quently fires are reported by someone who might have put the fire out on the spot, and later when the crew arrived the fire was out of control. Since our private and public resources are critically needed at this time, it would be a salute to the axis not to cooperate and take responsibility responsi-bility in this program of fire suppression sup-pression and prevention. Sheriff Antone B. Prince will act as coordinator for fire fighting fight-ing in Washington county. In case anyone spots a fire, report it immediately im-mediately to the sheriff's office first, and in addition to any one of the following officials who attended at-tended this meeting and are cooperating co-operating in the program: Myron H. Allen and Louis D. Hatch, both of the Grazing Service, Serv-ice, Arizona Strip; Anson B. Call, Extension S e rv i c e , Washington county, Charles J. Smith and Fred Fagergren, both of the Park Service, Serv-ice, Zion Park; I. H. Johncon, Forest Service, Pine Valley and St. George; and Charles F. Rork, Soil Conservation Service, Washington Wash-ington county. It is desirable that everyone take an active interest in this program. Watch your County News for further information. |
