Show NEWS OF THE COUNTY SEAT The St. George post office employees em-ployees honored A. R. Barton at his home Tuesday evening with a pot-luck dinner and party, it being his birthday anniversary. A variety of games made up the evening's program. Mrs. LeGrande Spilsbury of Salt Lake City arrived Friday to spend ten days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George H. Seeg-miller Seeg-miller and other relatives. The Superior Beet Seed Growers Grow-ers of Washington county will hold their annual spring frolic at the South ward chapel recreation hall Saturday evening, Jan. 18, announces Phillip Foremaster, chairman. A good program of entertainment en-tertainment is being prepared and all members are urged to bring their partners and enjoy the 1941 party. Isaac H. Meacham of Mesa, Ariz., with their daughter, daugh-ter, Veda and sons, Melvin and Gilbert, visited briefly with Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Foster and daughter, Grace, the fore part of last week on their way to Salt Lake City and Provo. Their daughter was a missionary companion com-panion of Grace Foster and will attend the-L. D. S. Business college col-lege in Salt Lake City, the boys being enrolled at the B. Y. U. Leaving Wednesday to attend the annual conference of state and county officers in Salt Lake City will be a full representation from Washington county. This will include the three commissioners, commis-sioners, George H. Lytle, Newell R. Frei and Finley.M. Judd, County Coun-ty Clerk Alice Pendleton, Nettie K. Morris, treasurer, LaVerne De-Swan, De-Swan, Agnes Russell, deputy assessor, as-sessor, Howard Cannon, attorney and Antone B. Prince, sheriff. The conference will hold Thursday over Saturday. w The S-10 club held its regular Monday night club meeting with Miss Erma Bentley as hostess. The evening was spent in sewing. Seegmiller Jr., E. D. Seegmiller and Mrs. Eleanor Smith and daughter, Evelyn. Mrs. Fuller was the former Rose Seegmiller, Seeg-miller, a niece of "Uncle" Charley Seegmiller. More than 40 relatives and close friends met at the home of Mrs. Clara Larson Friday evening, eve-ning, Jan. 10 for a pot-luck party honoring Mrs. Al Smith of Salt Lake City and her daughters, Pauline and Betty Jean. Mrs. Smith was the former Beth Larson, Lar-son, daughter of Mrs. Olena Larson Lar-son and was her first holiday visit home in 15 years. She and her daughters returned home on the early bus Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Karl von Rydman and children returned to Salt Lake City, Jan. 7. .V, ..(, Mrs. Wynee Webber was hostess host-ess at a Desert Bridge party at her home Saturday evening. Mexican Mex-ican ideas were carried out in the table decorations and favors. Honors were shared by Mrs. Walter Wal-ter Jensen and Mrs. B. G. Milne. .". House guests recently of Mrs. Clara Larson were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bunker of Delta who were returning re-turning from spending a month with their son and family at Long j Beach. Leslie Ashby left Wednesday morning for Los Angeles to spend a month with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Plunkett. His sister. Mrs. M. Jeanne, who has been j attending school here. Mrs. Roy Lyle returned Sunday afternoon from Cedar City where she has been in the hospital since New Year's day, when she was injured in a car accident. Besides more minor injuries she suffered a fractured pelvis. She is reported making improvement. Mrs. Afton Reber and baby returned re-turned to Littlefield from the hospital hos-pital January 10. Talmage Chris'tensen spent Friday Fri-day over Sunday in St. George with Mrs. Christensen, returning to Provo Sunday. Mrs. Ashby Chadburn of Veyo underwent surgery at the local hospital January 13. Nelson Spafford of Beaver was a St. George visitor Friday and Saturday. J(. jV. Mr. and Mrs. Marion L. The Easy Aces met Wednesday night at the home of Mrs. James Andrus. The evening was spent playing Bridge, at . which Mrs. Reed Graff won first prizes and Mrs. Clyde McQuaid second prize. The Manomas Andrus camp of the D. U. P. held a meeting today (Thursday) at the home of .Mrs. W. B. Mathis at three o'clock. Senior Hop, January 31 with the Dixie Swingcopators. A surprise party was given for DeWayne Schmutz at his home Wednesday evening to celebrate his birthday anniversary. The evening eve-ning was spent in playing games, after which refreshnlents were served to the 20 guests present. Everyone is reported to have had a delightful time. Mrs. Joseph Wilkinson and Ray Palmer motored in from Cane Beds Wednesday evening and were joined by Mrs. Emmaline J. Cottam, her daughter Mrs. Moroni Mor-oni McArthur and B. Jarvis Jr., this (Thursday) morning for a week-end trip to Mesa, Ariz., where they will be guests of Mr. and Mrs. Heber Jarvis, brother of Mrs. Cottam. .U. M. 'A- 'A- -71- W. W. McArthur and son Rudger, left this (Thursday) morning for Salt Lake City where Rudger will enter the L. D. S. mission home Monday. Y. U. A Wesley A. Nelson left Sunday afternoon for Logan where he will spend two weeks in the Gamble Hardware store training school, preparatory to opening a store in St. George. Mr. and Mrs. E. Eric Snow and two sons and Mr. and Mrs. Earl J. Bleak were guests of Mr. and Mrs Ralston Barber on Sunday at their Pine Valley home. The boys enjoyed sleighing on the sled. Miss Roma Fullerton, who is working in Las Vegas, was visiting visit-ing in St. George on her "day off" this week. I |
