Show Extensive Improvements Now Underway At St. George City Airport Due To Damage To Planes Program Had To Be Reduced By 10 Students By M. J. MILES CPT Ground School Instructor Extensive improvements have been commenced at the local airport as a result of concerted effort on the part of Pres. Glenn E. Snow, Mayor D. C. Watson and councilmen, together with county commissioners, Chamber of Commerce Com-merce and interested citizens, who met with Joseph E. Borgin, state director of aeronautics and representatives repre-sentatives of the State Road commission, com-mission, who visited at the local field Saturday. To Gravel Field At the suggestion of Mr. Borgin and the State Road commission, plans were made to gravel the road leading to the airport and to remove the loose rocks from the landing area, and to surface the landing and taxiing strips with gravel. Funds necessary for these improvements im-provements have been raised through united action of the county, city, the Governor's office, of-fice, and local citizens and organizations. organ-izations. The city is furnishing its road equipment to scoop up the rocks from the landing field. . President Snow has arranged to get gravel from the state crusher, (Continued on page eight) Airport Work (Continued from first page) which is erected near Santa Clara, and transport this gravel directly to the landing area. This is a much-needed improvement improve-ment at the local field, as the damage resulting from the present pres-ent condition of the landing area to wheels and tail assemblies of aircraft has been serious. The present condition of the field makes flying hazardous, due to the damage to tail wheels and tail assemblies, which could very easily result in serious accidents. Appreciation is expressed by those associated with the college program for the united interest and support which is accorded this program. The many requests for assistance at the local airport air-port have been met by united action of the city government, county government, and Chamber of Commerce, local organizations and interested individuals. While such support exists, our local program pro-gram can continue to expand. Training Quota Reduced Due in part to the present condition con-dition of the landing area, and the consequent damage and delay de-lay to secondary flight equipment, local quotas have been reduced for the next program. Dixie junior college has taken a reduction of five trainees, in their elementary quota, and Ventura junior college has taken a reduction of five in their elementary quota, due in each case to the inability of the operators to carry their present elementary trainees through the secondary course. bimonthly meetings of the A roups. g, 3 Myrtle Henderson will be V eaker.
