Show Jensen Reports Beet Seed Operations As Complete For 1938 Beet seed cleaning operations and germinations were completed Saturday, Nov. 5 at the local Beet seed plant of the Utah-Idaho sugar company, it was announced today by Moroni Jensen, who is in charge of the company's operation in this district. Mr. Jensen describes it as the closing of one of the most successful success-ful beet seed cleaning campaigns as well as one of the best crops in production and germination which the company and farmers have had since the beginning of the beet seed growing in this territory. Approximately 1,600,000 pounds of cleaned seed was produced pro-duced for which the company paid approximately $144,000.00 to the farmers. All of this amount has been paid for except $10,000.00 or $12,000.00 which will be paid during this coming week. The payroll for labor during the year has amounted to approximately approxi-mately $12,000.00. Before the opening open-ing of the seed plant early in July the plant was thoroughly overhauled over-hauled and improvements made to the extent of $2,300.00 to $2,400.00. "The planting of the 1939 crop (Continued on page 10) Beet Seed Report (Continued rrom first page) commenced August 20 of this year and at present the crop is in a splendid condition and if climatic states of Utah, Idaho, Montana, conditions continue favorable throughout the growing season we ishould have fully as good a crop this wxt fall as has been harvest-cj harvest-cj this past fall", declares Mr. Jensen. 'Bke company now has; 12 sugar factories operating in the manufacturing manu-facturing of sugar, they are in the Washington and South Dakota. It is estimated from these factories there will be produced three million mil-lion bags of sugar. "Splendid results are being obtained ob-tained from local grown beet seed in these factory districts. It is estimated the company will plant 100,000 acres of Sugar beets during dur-ing the coming year for the production pro-duction of sugar", states Mr. Jensen. |
