Show ST. GEORGE CCC CAMP NOTES A camp baseball team has been organizied among the fellows of 255S. Considerable Interest is being taken by the boys and everyone interested in the national nation-al sport, including the officials of the camp. Captain Klenk and Superintendent Thompson have had a great deal of experience on the diamond, each is capable of holding his own when it comes to playing the game well. There seems to be an abundant supply of very good material from which a good team can be built. A keen sense of appreciation is felt toward the City officials for granting us the permission to use the city baseball grounds. We hope to be able to engage in contests con-tests with the surrounding CCC camps as well as local clubs. Since our company strength will be around one hundred and sixty men when our new men arrive ar-rive it has made it possible to rearrange the barracks doing away with the upper bunks. This arrangement makes the barracks much neater and more orderly. The old paper has been torn from the walls and the boards burned with a blow torch, which has the effect of bringing out Jhe grain of the wood, leaving a rustic rus-tic appearance. Among our several sev-eral improvements in our camp is a new ice box (one that would make any ice man's heart jump for joy, to fill.) It will be used to la very good advantage when the weather gets warm. The educational program at 2 558 is being revamped to make a profitable summer program. Vocational courses will be continued con-tinued while a few new academic courses will be offered. A socialized social-ized dancing course was begun last Tuesday evening for the fellows fel-lows who wish to learn to idance. The course, from all indications, will be very popular among the fellows. We are indeed indebted to Mr. WiadswoTth and Miss Mc-Arthur Mc-Arthur for making the course possible. Our typing class, being taught by Miss Mariam Ahlstrom and Miss Jean Leavitt, in the Dixie college is making rapid progress. pro-gress. A deep feeling of thanks and appreciation is prevelent among the camp officials and the fellows for the splendid cooperation coopera-tion and help we are receiving from the Dixie college in making our educational program a success. |
