Show Dr. J. T. Affleck, Former Dixie Physician, Dies At Home In Calif. Word was received by relatives in this city of the death, in Sacramento Sacra-mento Sunday night, of Dr. J. T. Affleck, age about 77, former physician and suregon of St. George, and brother-in-law of Mrs. Wellington F. Gates, Sherman C. Hardy and Bert Hardy of this city. Death resulted from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Doctor Affleck was born and reared in New England states and was a graduate of Harvard. Going from Boston to San Francisco he received an appointment from a mining company to come to Silver Reef to practice. It was while here that he met and married mar-ried Elizabeth Hardy, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Augustus P. Hardy of this city. He came to St. George and established esta-blished a general drug store in connection with Robert Michaels in the early 90's, practicing his profession, and won many friends. He became well known for his advanced knowledge of surgery for that period and made many friends, establishing an excellent practice. They moved to Sacramento Sacra-mento in 1908, where he has continued con-tinued to practice. To them were born four children, child-ren, three of whom a son and two daughters, survive with his wife. His living children are Augustus J. Affleck and Mrs. Annie Riorden of Sacramento and Mrs. Nellie Goodall, of Seattle, Wash. Their youngest son, Thomas, died two vears ago. From evidence, it seemed he had sut-fered sut-fered an attack of apoplexy and while he had the presence of mind to turn off the gas in his car, he did not put the brakes on and his car crashed into a telephone pole, resulting in a broken hip and many lacerations. Pneumonia followed. fol-lowed. Mrs. Affleck had come as fas as Los Angeles enroute tc , St George for an extended visit with her sister and brothers when she was contacted with the word of her husband's injury and returned home. . Their son, Augusts J.. is em ployed as a federal bacteriologist and is president of the Chambe. of Commerce of Sacramento. |
