Show BOY SCOUT ACTIVITIES J. Easton Parratt of the department depart-ment of Education made an official visit to the Dixie Junior college Tuesday morning. Problems in connection con-nection with finance were considered con-sidered with President Smith and M. M. Bently, treasurer. Mr. Parratt also visited with officials at the county school office. He left Tuesday afternoon for Panguitch to continue with his official work. Dixie college closed its books at the end of the first biennium under direct supervision of the State of Utah with all accounts cleared. The biennium closed Wednesday night. A small surplus was used to aid with the general repairs of the buildings. Summer repairs are in full swing at the college. Work being done now includes the completion of the ventilation system for the auditorium, auditor-ium, reconstruction of the college offices, preparation of storage rooms in the basement of the education building, construction of storage room for stage equipment on the upper floor of the education building,, and general painting and kalsomining of all buildings. Word has been received from D. Elden Beck, who is doing collecting in Californa, that he will have a real addition of marine life for the biological laboratory when he returns next September. His collection col-lection will include plant and animal life, such as star fish, barnacles, mussels, fish and kelp. Ralph Huntsman, head of the art department, announces a new service in art for the coming year. Advanced students in this department depart-ment will be prepared to serve the public in preparing useful art productions. Chief among these will be poster work. The students will prepare all types of announcements announce-ments at a nominal price. Details of this service will be given later. The purpose of the art service will be to broaden the experience of the students. Among the correspondence at the college during the week was a letter from a young man in California, who is inquiring concerning con-cerning opportunities at Dixie. He writes that a student of Dixie recommended this college as a "good school for him to attend." |
