Announcements were received by relatives in St. George of the birth in Los Angeles September 25, of a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. John Turley. The mother is the former Arlene Riding, daughter daugh-ter of Mrs. Ella Dansky of Los Angeles and the late Gordon Riding Rid-ing and is a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Riding. This is their first great-grandchild. She will live at the dormitory. dor-mitory. Mrs. Orval Hafen and son Michael left Friday for Provo where they will visit relatives for 10 days. They will be joined today, Thursday, by Mr. Hafen, who is leaving with Pres. W. W. McArthur to attend conference in SaJt Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Don Lott of Lehi, who have been visiting in St! George the past week, left for their home last Friday. Miss Merle Empey, who has been receiving medical care in the local hospital for the past several days, returned to her home today (Thursday). Mrs. Helen Hafen of St. George placed first rating in 4-H club foods at the Utah state fair. Mr. and Mrs. Ralston Barber have been visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl J. Bleak, for the past two weeks, leaving Wednesday Wed-nesday morning for Los Angeles to spend a few days before returning re-turning to Jacob's Lake where they will spend the winter. Mr. and Mrs. Ralston Barber and Mrs. Stella Bleak visited Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Bleak in Cedar City Monday. The Elementary school faculty women's club held their weekly meeting at the home of Mrs. Lucille Pitchforth. Mrs. Lida Prince entertained 20 members of the Vesta club and 15 guests September 38. Past members of the Dixie college col-lege Beaux Art Guild entertained a large group of the incoming art department students at an j informal social in the reception room of the science building on Monday evening. Miss Lois Jennings returned last week to Provo, after visiting visit-ing with her parents for several days, to resume charge of her beauty shop. Mrs. Laura A. Gates arrived Tuesday morning from Los Angeles. She will visit in St. George for a week with her children, chil-dren, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Riding and family, and will then go on to Ogden to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gates. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Esplin of Little Tank were visiting their daughter, Roma, and other relatives rela-tives and transacting business in St. George over the week "end. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Coons, who have spent the past several weeks at Navajo Lake, motored to St. George last Saturday. Mrs. Coons remained to visit with her mother, Mrs. Nettie K. Morris for several days. Her husband returned to assist with moving the CCC camp out of that section for the winter. win-ter. They report a snow storm at Navajo Lake that began on Saturday. They will visit relatives in Whitney and return via Salt Lake City to attend conference con-ference before coming home. Mr. and Mrs. Jack I. Ricketts returned Saturday from a two weeks visit with friends and relatives rela-tives in Kentucky. Mrs. Eugene Palfreyman and three children arrived last Friday from Springville to visit for several sever-al days with her mother, Mrs. Eva Higbee, and her sisters, Mrs. Arthur Kemp and Mrs. Grant Harris. Miss Jean Cottam was at home over Saturday from Kanab, where she is teaching school. The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. D. P. "Forsyth of 544 West 90th street, Los Angeles, ' will be happy to learn of the birth to them of a seven pound son, last Thursday, September 28. This is their first child. Doctor and Mrs. Edmund Crowley, Crow-ley, and the latter's mother, Mrs. Harris, of Santa Barbara, Calif., visited friends in St. George over Saturday evening and Sunday on their way to attend the coming L.D.S. conference in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Crowley will be remembered re-membered as the woman who was severely crippled last December while on an excursion to the St. I George Temple. Since their visit j to the Temple last May, she j has been able to get about with-J with-J out her crutches. Doctor Crowley 1 was a speaker in the south ward fast meeting Sunday. Mrs. H. ' Mr. and Mrs. Foster Rhoades of Hanna, Utah spent a short time Wednesday and Thursday at the home of Mrs.' Rhoades' sister, Mrs. Jed Terry here. They were enroute home after attending the San Francisco Exposition where their sheep took six of the 11 first places. Mrs. Lee Weibel was hostess to members of the Triple K club Wednesday evening, Mrs. Reed Mathis and Mrs. Willard Bleak sharing honors. Mrs. P. E. Parsons and two small daughters left for Salt Lake City early this (Thursday) morning, morn-ing, accompanied by Mrs. Parson's Par-son's father, B. Jarvis. Harold L. Coulter, Joe Kirch-j Kirch-j ner, Stewart Hartman and I Charles Willis returned to CCC ; camp 2558 at Short Creek Octo-I Octo-I ber 4, having been in the hospital : the past 10 days. Mrs. Edison DeMille and baby daughter returned to her home at Leeds. Miss DeRue Shumway of Kanab visited Saturday and Sunday with relatives in St. George, a guest of her aunt, Mrs. Reid Mathis. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Thomas are spending a few days in Ogden where Mr. Thomas is attending meetings cf the J. C. Penney company. Mrs. Vivian Leany was hostess to the members of the O.N.O. club at her home last Saturday evening. R. N. Ashby left Wednesday evening for Salt Lake City where he is attending the Ford Motor company meeting. He expects to bring a 1940 model Ford back with him. |
