They were rescued by the merest chance of a third passing ship, the lighthouse tender, ten-der, Kukui, after being marooned of the coast of Niihau Island. Mr. Leithead was then 17 and making his first voyage, and in spite of the experience has stayed with the sea and is now Captain of the Ewa of the Matson Lines. |
