Above All Things This Fellow Was an Optimist A contractor borrowed a badly worn car from a friend for Z emergency trip. With an em. ployee he set out. A little way down the road he noticed the brake did not work. After another mile they Wer rolling down a smooth road toward a bridge. A glance showed a six-foot six-foot gap between the bridge and the bank. Viciously he pulled at the emergency brake, only to find that it did not work. Then he discovered that the gas pedal had jammed down. Turning to his companion, he remarked re-marked cheerfully: "Well, here's hoping the gas gives out!"
