Show COMMENCEMENT By P. I). SPIbSBUUY, Guest Editorial Writer This" is commmencement time. May 21 will see the twenty-fifth observance of commencement at the Dixie junior college and high school. This month and next will see thousands of diplomas issued to the graduates of high schools and colleges all over the land, who have completed the prescribed requirements for such certificates, Many of these young peopla will how seek employment in the various professions and industries of life. Others will continue on in search of higher scholastic degrees and attainments. Whatever may be their decisions, the event of commencemtent marks an important milepost in their lives. It signifies the attainment of a goal toward which they set out four years ago. These graduates have reached reach-ed the first of the heights. On a small rural postoffice hangs-a sign which reads: "Consider the postage stamp, my son. Its use fulness consists in its ability to stick to a thing until it gets there". A profound principal underlies that simple story. Results Re-sults are accomplished only when real .effort and hard work are combined with determination and the proper degree of stick-to-itiveness. We grow and develope only by effort. The ability of these 1936 graduates of Dixie college and high school to stick to that one objective which will be reached Friday, May 21, will reap its own reward. They have reached that goal by their perseverance and effort. They have demonstrated that they have capacity for yet greater accomplishments. May they press on to higher and even more signicant attainments. That is why diplomas are issued. |
