Show Excavation Work On New Postoffice Started Monday Local Men Have Excavating Contract ; Government to Keep Engineer Here Work on the new St. George postoffice building started Monday Mon-day when Bill Elmer and Reed Graff commenced excavating work. Robert A. Miller, government engineer en-gineer and Carl Stevens, engineer for the M'cDonald construction company, which was awarded the contract for the building, .are here supervising the work. Under their contract the company com-pany is alloted nearly a year in which to finish the building. However, Mr. Stevens states, they hope to have it done in October. They are working under the system sys-tem of subletting as much as possible. To date the excavating work is the only part that local contractors have taken. The building is to be erected one block east of the Tabernacle and will face Tabernacle street. In addition to the postoffice there will be two rooms in the basement. base-ment. It will cost $55,706. The building will be approximately 61 by 59 feet. The site was purchased pur-chased from David H. Morris, Ed Miles and Mrs. Lottie Carter after af-ter several other sites had been considered. Treasury department architects at Washington prepared the plans and specifications, which call for a one-story and basement building build-ing of hrick and native stone. The postoffice will occupy the main floor, which will contain a postmaster's post-master's office, work room, money order section, employees' swing room and lobby.
