All of the counties in Utah are eligible to make application for a portion of the 40,000,000 bushels of grain stabilization corporation wheat which has been turned over to the American Am-erican Red . Cross to distribute to "needy and distressed" people, according to a letter received last week from Director William Peterson of the Utah state agricultural agri-cultural college by WTalter F. Smith, county agent. "This comes as a Godsend to people in the state who are suffering because of feed and food shortage," said Director Peterson, in commenting on the gift." All counties in Utah were included because of the drouth of 1931 and because of the depressed de-pressed condition of many families fami-lies in the state." Those who are desirous of obtaining wheat should make application to the county unit of the Red Cross. Application blanks will be furnished and assistance as-sistance given by officers in charge. Director Peterson said that although the distribution of the wheat is not to be handled by the extension service in any way, still the county agents will stand ready at any time to assist needy farmers in securing the necessary information to make application to the Red Cross organization. |
