Show RED CROSS ACTIVITIES' Observance of Armistice Day. November 11. marks the opening of the annual Red Cross Roll Call for memberships. John H. Cottani. chairman of Washington chapter declares the alliance of war and post-war days between the American Red Cross and the armed forces of the Nation veterans and men on active ac-tive duty, together with the! families. -is emphasized and strengthened in the period of economic ec-onomic emergency. Arne. director of Red ; Cross War,Service in the Pacific Area, advises the local Red Cross unit that 3.200 chapters throughout through-out the nation are conducting home service programs for the assistance of veterans, service men and their dependents. In 12 months, more than 411.000 veterans and more than 7,000 service nen and their families, have been aided by the Red Cross. Recent government economy measures' have reduced or entirely entire-ly eliminated the compensation. ' pension and other benefits of sev-' sev-' eral- -hundred thousand veterans. -All of these men are granted the privilege of appeal and the Red Cross is designated agency for the preparation and presentation of claims and appeals before the Veterans Administration. Chairman Cottam says the $500,000,000 fund for direct Federal Fed-eral relief is to be administered solely for the relief of the unemployed un-employed and that it may not be used to care for veterans who are employed or are unemployable.
