The vote was: Yes ;;:i No CtS Majority 41! Three absent voters' ballots, marked Yes. were not counted because no name was written on the envelope in which they were enclosed. Voting was unusually heavy, considering con-sidering the question involved. Fifteen Fif-teen had cast their ballots before eight o'clock that morning : nearly near-ly two hundred had visited the polls by noon and -at the close at 7 o'clock ;l total of 002 had voted. This number was over two thirds of the total vote cast in St. George for presidential electors at the general election two years ago. At that time less than H0O voted for president of the United States. According to close observers who claimed to know what they were talking about, those favoring opening open-ing the town to Sunday amusements amuse-ments had gained a large lead by the middle cf the afternoon. Those opposing the proposition were in heavy majority from about 4 p. in. to 6 o'clock ami had nearly near-ly evened the count. But a final spurt by the yes voters just before be-fore closing time settled the question. ques-tion. In accordance with the will ol the people of the town, the ordinance ordi-nance amending the Mundiiy amusements section of the city ordinances or-dinances will be passed by the council at the regular meeting Saturday, Sat-urday, will be published next Thursday after which it will he legal for the amusements in question ques-tion to operate on Sundays. As diawn up the .imcndmonl provides that the shows and golf course may operate provided they are not .shown or played so as to conflict with any regularly scheduled sched-uled religious meet mg. |
