Show TOURISTS AND ROADS TALKED AT MEETING Associated Civic Clubs of Southern Utah Go on Record Rec-ord as Favoring Hurri-cane-St. George Connection The directors of the Associated Associat-ed Civic Clubs of Southern Utah held their regular monthly meeting meet-ing at the V. T. ranch in the Kaibab last Thursday and Friday. Fri-day. The entertainment was under un-der the auspices of the Kanab Lions club and a large representation repre-sentation was in attendance. Road problems, tourist travel, unemployment iu southern Utah and publicity for the counties represented were the principal topics taken up. The association went on record rec-ord as favoring the Hurricane-St. Hurricane-St. George connection, also the establishing of a mail route from Cameron, Arizona, to Kanab, and urged that action be taken to accomplish these projects. The efforts of the association on the stretch of road from Thistle, Utah, to Fairview resulted re-sulted in the Utah and Sanpete county commissioners appropriating appropri-ating money for a survey this year and the assurance from the state road commission and the bureau of public roads that contracts con-tracts would be let in 1932. The road from Junction to Puffers lake was stressed as an important impor-tant link in reaching new vacation vaca-tion grounds and scenic attractions attrac-tions and the club went on record rec-ord as favoring the project, and will back any move that can be ' instituted to get early action on the project. Regarding the unemployment situation, the club urged the use of more local labor on construction, con-struction, maintenance and betterment bet-terment of southern Utah highways. high-ways. Looking to the relief of the unemployed the county commissioners com-missioners of all southern counties coun-ties will be invited to study the unemployment situation and see if a workable plan can be devised. de-vised. If the county commissioners commission-ers look with favor on a study of the situation, a meeting will be called in order that united effort may be had. The association will cooperate with A. C. Wilsbn, state director direc-tor of the United States employment em-ployment service in making a survey of the, southern part of the state. The Wayne county delegation extended an invitation to the directors to meet in that county in July and stated that Governor George H. Dern, Senator. Reed Smoot, Senator Win. H. King, ; Representative Don B. Colton, Parks Director Horace M. Albright Al-bright and Superintendent Thos. J. Allen of Zion and Bryce would be extended an invitation to attend the meeting. Wayne county is desirous of having a national park established in the "Wayne Wonderland". |
