Show W. J. GRAHAM DIES IN EUGENE, ORE. The News received word this week of the death of W. J. Graham Gra-ham who died at his home in Eugene, Oregon, January 3 at the age of 74. He was born November Novem-ber 13, 1859 at Carson Hill, Calaveras Cal-averas County, California, was a member of the Masonic and Elk lodges. Christian Science services servic-es were held at the Veatch Chapel Cha-pel on Saturday, January 6 at 2 o'clock. He is survived by his widow Mrs. Julia E. Graham, two daughters, daugh-ters, Mrs. Helena Overhulse of Portland, Ore. and Miss Mary Graham of Keene, Calif., one son Frank Graham of Eugene, Ore., and one grand-daughter. W. J. Graham came to St. George about 1917. He had largely been interested in mining min-ing most of his life and was attracted at-tracted to the Dixie country by its mineral possibilities. Oil had also interested him in Bakersfield and he was not slow to see the wonderful structures, domes and antiolines of this section sec-tion which gave promise of being oil producers. Soon his interests changed to oil and the Virgin Dome Oil Company was organized. organiz-ed. Largely through the magnetic personality of Mr. Graham this company was financed and much drilling done. Under his management man-agement about $150,000.00 of outside capital was raised ad expended in the St. George Oil Field. Some disagree me nts among the stockholders caused Mr. Graham to resign the management man-agement of the company and after af-ter several other disappointments in oil he moved to Eugene, Oregon. Ore-gon. Mr. Graham was we'.l supported support-ed by his wife who acted as his secretary and was as clever in promoting as her husband. While in St. George "Mr Graham Gra-ham and family took an. active: part in all 'educational and civic activities. He was actively Democratic Demo-cratic in politiC3 and enjoyed the political game. For several years he was sheriff sher-iff in Kearn County, Calif. |
