Show COLONIZER OF SANTA CLARA GALLEDBY DEATH John S. Stucki Passed Away Sunday Evening After Several Months' Illness; Author of Family History John S. Stucki, S3, handcart pioneer of 1S60, who came to Dixie at the call of President Bri;h?.in Young in 1861. died at his family residence at Santa Clara Sunday evening fo. lowing a period of poor health of several months' duration. Mr. Stucki was born December 13, 1S50, in Hiersietten Bern, Switzerland. Bis family was converted con-verted to the L. D. S. gospel in their native land and left for America Am-erica in the year 1S60. They crossed cross-ed the plains in a handcart, and at the call of Brigham Young came to Dixie in 1S61, settling at Santa Clara. He and his father assisted in the building of the St. George temple, tem-ple, walking five miles from Santa San-ta Clara to the stone pits at the black ridge and the red hill each morning, and returning to home by foot each evening. For many years he engaged in farming and ranching in the Santa Clara section. He married Barbara Bawmann at the home of Apostle Erastus 'Snow, on December Decem-ber 10, 1S75. A few years later he went on a mission to Switzerland, Switzer-land, returning to become superintendent super-intendent of the Sunday school at I Santa Cira a" later a meJiiL of the ward bishopric. His first wife died in 1922. He married Karolina Heimberg on March 2, 1S89, in the St. George temple. She died Februarj 16, 1898. He was also married to Louise Reifihenbach in the Logan Lo-gan temple on October 13, 1922. Imniediately following the death of his first wife, he went to Logan where he engaged in temple work until a few months a.go. One year ago Mr. Stucki published pub-lished a history of his and his families' lives. Surviving him, according to the statement in his journal, on April 1, 1932, are 16 children, 48 grand children, and 3 3 great grandchildren; grandchil-dren; and by sealing, 8 children of his third wife, with 48 grandchildren grand-children and 7 great grandchildren. grandchil-dren.
