Show DO SOMETHING TO STOP RECKLESS AUTO DRIVING Complaints are made almost daily that if there is any law in this city regulating auto driving that it is set at defiance by a lot of people who daily endanger the life and limbs of others- besides their own. We often see cars being driven about the streets of this city so fast that it would be impossible for the drivers to avert disaster should anything occur that necessitated them stopping within a reasonable distance. Cars shoot around corners on the wrong side of the street frequently, endangering children and others who may be in their way but at the same time are within their, (the pedestrians') pedes-trians') rights. They drive fast past schools, totally unchecked so far as we can discover. When the city put in the silent traffic cops at the street intersections, intersec-tions, nearly every driver observed the injunction to Keep to the right. But it did not last long and soon they were cutting inside them instead of keeping to the right. This recklessness is becoming a habit; so little notice is taken of it that one could easily assume that it was never otherwise. Are we a community of law violators viola-tors that so many of us continually jeopardize the lives, limbs and property prop-erty of others? If we are not we are headed in the direction to soon become be-come such. We realize perfectly well that our law officers can not be in all places at once. If necessary they should have help for a few days while the lesson of safe driving was driven home. Better that than the loss of or injury to those near and dear to us. Something should be done soon to remedy this state of affairs. We hope our Mayor. City Council and Marshal may take the matter in hand before it is brought home to them through sadness and suffering brought about through contempt or disregard of the law. |
