Show i .... LEEDS ! Leeds, Jan. 10. William Newton, our eldest citizen, died Jan. 3. If he ; had of lived he would of been 97 j years old Jan. 15. He was born and raised in Iindiana. He went to California Calif-ornia in the gold rush of 1S49, going east and sailing around Cape Horn up the South American and Mexican coast to California. From California he went to Nevada in the early days mining there and mined there for years, later buying a ranch there. In the days of the Silver Reef's boom he came to Silver Reef and has spent most of his life here since. He was a hard worker. He joined the L. D. S. church here in Leeds. He leaves three sons, prominent men living at Vernal, V7ill, Ike and Ed. His funeral was held on Thursday morning morn-ing interment being made in the cemetary here. His son Ike came to the funeral. The Toquerville high school and the eighth gracfe basket ball players came over Friday and played two games with our boys. Our boys were the winners in both games. Stanley Fuller returned home from Salt Lake City Wednesday where he spent the holidays. Wayne Angell came home with him. Mrs. E. Ballard of Hurricane has been visiting here with her daughter, Mrs. Lula Sullivan. Arvil, Delma and Wilma Hartman spent a part of the holidays in Cedar City. Leland Sullivan returned home Sunday from the Hurricane valley. Forest Ranger and Mrs. Alex Mac-farlane Mac-farlane of St. George are here. There are quite a few cases of chicken pox here.
