A. held their regular meeting Tuesday night. There was a good attendance and several matters concerning the welfare wel-fare of the scout activities in the district dist-rict were discussed. Reports were made by all committees which showed show-ed them active. Main subjects discussed were the summer outing and finances. Regarding Re-garding the latter ,the best time for a drive for funds was discussed, ending in the matter being left with the financial fin-ancial committee to decide on best time and then report. Regarding the outing, where the scouts are tested on subjects that cannot be given at home, it had been proposed to have tne ounng in connection con-nection with the M. I. A. fathers' and sons' outing in July, a whole week being be-ing devoted to the combined outing at Pine Valley. Opposition to this developed because of these dates com-' ing in the busy farming season, when it would be difficult to get fathers and sons to leave work for that length of time. The tests for the scouts on this occasion oc-casion will be intensive, along the lines of nature study, forestry, etc., and it was shown that during these tests it would be advisable to have the boys to themselves so that nothing noth-ing could distract them from the work in hand. Subject to change, a decision was arrived at to hold the combined outing out-ing on July 15, 16 and 17, the first of these days being devoted to going to Pine Valley, fixing camp, etc.; the second day to the scout tests while the fathers helped to build the large log hut which is to be summer headquarters, head-quarters, the third day being devoted to the hike up Pine Valley mountain by fathers and sons. Report was made that the logs, poles for rafters, etc., are all on the ground ready for the erection of the lodge. B. Glen Smith reported five troops functioning in the district with three more about ready for organization, these three being Leeds. Washington and a troop in St. George East ward. Arrangements have been completed to organize the Leeds troop next Sunday. Sun-day. The next visit of Executive A. Golden Kilburn is scheduled for May 7 and S. Scout Notes Papers for the registration of a new troop in the St. George West ward have been sent to the local council office. The names of nine boys are included in the original registration. reg-istration. Job Hall is the scontmast- j er of the new troop, which will be designated as Troop 4. or the Hiawatha troop. i The Pole Star troop is making j preparations for its birthday anniver-J anniver-J sary party. to what they now are and at that time it was perhaps the best place for them. This danger to travel is enhanced on Second North street by two lines of poles, one power the other telephone, tele-phone, one line of poles being in the center of the street and the other about midway between them and the curb on the north side. This makes it especially confusing to drivers. One has to be an expert driver to make the turn required around the marker at the cross near the courthouse court-house and every driver of an auto is not an expert. These poles should be moved and the streets kept clear of obstuctions to safe driving. Other cities have seen the necessity neces-sity for making similar changes, why should St. George be behind? |
