| Show Winter hunting fishing forecasted to be good By John Conservation Officer Although many would consider the worthwhile hunting and fishing activities In this area over until next summer some worthwhile outdoor activities of this kind are still available to sportsmen Sportsmen should still be able to find plenty of hunting opportunities Phea Phea- Phea Pheasant sant hunting on state and federal lands remain open In Uintah County until Dec 5 Hunters have had some success on federal land south of Pelican Lake In past years However to make best use of this opportunity hunters should consult land landownership landownership ownership maps available at of fires to determine where federal and state lands are located Cottontail hunting is expected to be good this year and the season Is open un til Jan 31 Hunting will probably be best bestin bestin in the Bonanza area and In the vicinity of the new power plant Remember the dally daily bag limit In Uintah County is 5 the possession limit 1 10 Some good waterfowl hunting should als also be available until the season closure on Jan 2 Pelican and Stewart Lakes are probably the best bets Although there are not many ducks or geese on Pelican right now this could change at any time once this lake begins to freeze hunter success improves Although the opening of the goose hunt was slow lit at Pelican over geese were observed In this area In September on the southeast shoreline There have been reports of small groups of geese on Pelican In recent weeks Some goose hunting success has also been reported on the Green River Last week a number of swans were also observed at Pelican These of course can only be hunted with a special swan permit Ouray Refuge southeast of Pelican Lake Is closed to goose hunting but designated portions are open to duck hunting and there Is more water available there now than there as been In recent years Children under 16 are not required to purchase a duck stamp to hunt waterfowl When hunting cottontails pheasants and waterfowl children 12 and 13 years old must be accompanied by parents legal guardians or other responsible per per- person son of the age of twenty one 21 years or older and approved by the parent or guardian Children 14 and 15 years of age must be accompanied by a person of the age of twenty one 21 years or older The adult parent or guardian n flying ing children under 16 do not have to possess a small game license it if they do donot donot not hunt or carry a firearm Conserva tion Officers have contacted a large number of persons under 16 hunting without adult supervision In the last few weeks and we urge parents in the in- in interest interest terest of safety to ensure that their children do not hunt unsupervised Although the general fishing season closes the end of November there Is still fair fishing available on an some year round waters Pelican Lake offers ice fishing and success seems to be varied there are both good and poor reports on bluegill fishing The Green River south of the Colorado State line Is also open year round almost exclusively catfish are caught there East Park Reservoir and Bullock Reservoir just north of Gusher are the other year round waters In this area East Park Is accessible in winter by snowmobile or cross cross country country skiing Bullock has been treated for suckers so fishing Is not expected to be good until after it Is stocked with cat cat- for the opening next spring although Bullock promises to be an ex ex- ex excellent year round fishery A final reminder all 1982 fishing and hunting licenses expire on Dec 31 31 Licenses for 1983 will be available In mid December and are valid for use the day of purchase I o u DRAWING SHOWS the phase 1 production decline on the right and center and air Intake shaft vertical on the left Ore will be mined with the room and pillow method at the bottom of the two shafts at the White River Shale Oil Corp site southeast of Vernal |
