Show Council discusses forming Ballard Chamber of Commerce Business licenses were applied for in inthe inthe the Ballard Town Council meeting Tues Tues- Tuesday Tuesday day Oct 26 Larry Dupis submitted an application for a business license for Cor Dennis Hot Oil Service Dennis Hot Oil Service has had its main office in Altamont and wants to open an office in Ballard The company is owned and operated by Earl Dennis and will be located in a mobile home east of The Barn Karl Betts made the motion that the business license be granted Keith Haslem seconded the motion and it passed unanimously James Bilyeu applied for a business license in The Barn to hold swap meets He said he was in the process of preparing preparing ing the building to meet the state fire code that many of the problems had been corrected and the remainder would be corrected soon He said he would eventually like to hold special dances and turkey shoots Haslem made the motion that when the corrections are made to the specifications of the State Fire Mar Mar- Marshall Marshall shall and Bilyeu has letter from the State Fire Marshall stating such that a business license be issued to him for a swap meet A license for dances and etc will be discussed after the building is open to the public Betts seconded the motion and it passed unanimously The council discussed the forming ot of ota ofa a Ballard Chamber of Commerce Mayor Verdon Heaton felt before the chamber was formed that the council members should make sure this is what the businesses want Haslem said that he had talked to several businesses in Ballard and they were very favorable of the idea Robert Abercrombie and Mayor Heaton were hesitant of the idea Betts said that he would like to see a Lions Club started in Ballard Haslem said that he would draft a letter to each of the businessmen in Ballard to get the feelings on establishing a Chamber of Commerce in Ballard The council discussed the request for forthe forthe the street designation for a road to the houses in the subdivision where Terry Huxford lives The council said that the road has never been brought up to stan stan- standards dards and has never been donated to the city at this time therefore the road is a private drive and does not have a designation The road also will not have havethe havethe the snow cleared from it in the winter or any other maintenance done to it it Completion of the swings that have been started in the Ballard Park was discussed by the council The council felt that the swings should be completed ted and Mapco received recognition for the pipe they had donated to the community LaVen LaVell Asay is the chairman of the park committee Robert representing the Basin Area Lions Club met with the council to report that the Lions Club had donated two road signs to the Town of Ballard saying Welcome to Ballard and reo re- re requested quested help from the council in install install- installing Ing them Shar Lynn Benson was asked to contact the Department of Transportation tation to find out what permits were needed before the signs could be installed Heaton reported that he met with the Uintah County Association for the Han Han- Handicap which had met in the Ballard CI Ci- Ci City ty Building Oct 25 and had offered the services of the Ballard Town Council to help the association with a campaign to tomake tomake make the general public aware of the needs of the handicapped so that they may be able to operate in society more normally Abercrombie made the motion that the council show their support to the Association of the Handicapped in any anyway anyway way possible Haslem seconded the mo- mo motion motion tion and it passed unanimously |
