| Show Gp t r 4 I If f i r rI I nt 1 1 t Lk VERNAL Three COWGIRLS of Vernal's pretty Young cowgirls were selected Saturday night to reign over the annual Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo They are censer Mire Deanna Murray Rodeo Queens Miss Diane Wilkins left as Miss Vernal and Miss Marilyn Call as Miss Uintah Deanna Murray Selected As Queen Of Annual Dinosaur Roundup Miss Deanna Murray was chosen to reign over the an- an annual annual nual Dinosaur Roundup Ro Ro- Rodeo deo August 2 3 and 4 as rodeo queen She was crown crown- crowned ed at the Queens Queen's Dance Sat Sat- Saturday evening following the judging at the Uintah County Fairgrounds Selected as her attendants were Miss Marilyn Call as Miss Uintah and Miss Diane Wilkins as Miss Vernal Nine girls were in the final running for rodeo queen At Atthe Atthe the beginning of the contest the girls drew numbers from 1 to 9 0 so they might be judge judg- judged ed by numbers rather than names The finalists according to number included Carol Snow daughter of Mr and Mrs Woodrow Snow Vickie Searle daughter of Mr and Mrs Jay Searle Marilyn Call daughter of Mr and Mrs A Alwyn Call Vickie Peterson niece of Mr and Mrs Don Walker Deanna Murray daughter of Mr and Mrs Penney Murray Diane Wilkins daughter of Mr and Mrs Aaron Wilkins Carol Hall daughter of Mr and Mrs Marion Marlon Hall Nonie AI Al- Al Allen len daughter of Mr and Mrs Wm Allen and Cherie Ainge daughter of Mr and Mrs Shirley Ainge The girls were judged on horsemanship 65 points ap- ap appearance appearance 20 and showman showman- showmanship ship 15 During the barrel race every barrel that was knocked over cost the con con- contestant 5 points which was deducted from her total score Highlight of the evening was a surprise saddle contest which the girls had not practiced They wc were re required to ride the length of the arena unsaddle their horse and then saddle re-saddle and ride out The fastest time went to Deanna Murray whose time was 57 seconds 2nd place went to Marilyn Call with a time of one minute and 15 seconds and 3rd to Carol Snow with a time of one min min- minute ute and 18 seconds The girls were then inter interviewed interviewed viewed by the judges at which time each girl was re re- re required to answer two ques ques- ques and then judged accord accord- accordingly At the dance the queen pounced and crowned by the 1961 Dinosaur Roundup Rod Rod- Rodco eo co Queen Miss 1 Tarie Merrell These three lovely girls will reign over the rodeo and will be taken on an all ex pense paid trip to Las Vegas Nevada Also the queen and her attendants have been in in- in invited to participate in the celebration on July 4 in Meek Meek- Meeker er Colorado |
