Show History of Search and Rescue Patrol related The Uintah County Sheriffs Sheriff's Search and Rescue Patrol was organized in n the fall of 1959 and was chartered in the National and State organizations April 8 e 1961 SHERIFF NORMAN R R. R Fletcher and his only deputy William V. V Mott saw the need for forming a patrol of specialized men to assist them In case of emergency due to the shortage of manpower in their department The sheriff sent letters explaining explaining explaining ex ex- the need of forming a patrol to toa a group of men whom he felt qualified and would be interested in helping their fellowmen and also their community Based on the ef ef efforts forts of the sheriff and other interested parties the self self- supporting Uintah County Sheriffs Sheriff's Search and Rescue Patrol was formed with 19 charter members Norman R R. R Fletcher William V y Mott Jay lay Abplanalp Coke Jeffries Dallas Merrell Leslie P. P Thacker Kenneth R R. R v Rulon C C. Hacking E. E A. A Tex Edgar Calder George Calder Warren Mott Henry Milton Searle Jay Searle Woody B B. B Searle Vaughn Wilkins Tom Abplanalp Leland McNeill and many others who helped in the organization of the patrol As of 1975 six charter members are still active The community soon realized the necessity of the patrol and since that time many have sought to become members or have helped financially or have donated equipment equipments IN THE TilE younger days of the patrol the basic equipment was vehicles only Later communication communication com com- systems were installed installed installed in in- stalled and a bus used for forcentra central centra base was dona donated ted and equipped to handle most emergencies in the field As of 1975 we have an enrollment of 30 members with the following qualifications certified scuba divers with equipment licensed pilots skilled river runners qualified s snowmobile and motorcycle operators operators- operators and membership fully trained in first aid The V Vernal unit hosted the Utah State Convention in 1967 and the National Convention in 1972 at which time Governor Calvin R R.
