Show 1931 was way a II good year for Uintah football Football was only a few years year old in the Basin in 1931 but age had nothing to do with the strong Uintah High football squad of 1931 UINTAH DEFEATED Roosevelt which was in its first year year of District Six football v t twice ice The firs first game was 53 to 0 O and the second was 4 41 to 0 o. The Uintah Utes garnered a narrow 7 to 6 win over Moab and tied with Carbon High 0 to 0 Uintah won the District Six title with 3 wins zero losses and one tie WITH UINTAH'S winning of the District Six football title they advanced to a state stale quarter final game with Wasatch Uintah led 26 to toO 0 and then in the fourth quarter Wasatch came alive Twice they scored on long runs and narrowed Uintah's winning score to 26 to 12 Wasatch gained yards from scrimmage and Uintah picked up yards The Wasatch team won the yardage battle with the two long runs inthe Inthe in inthe the fourth quarter ACCORDING TO the Vernal Express of November 12 George Alexander Uintah quarterback and captain smashed off oft for many large cains Howard Noel and Charles Oaks were mentioned by the paper as having had outstanding games Uintah scored touchdowns in the first second and third quarters Other football players in the game for Uintah were Galloway right end Hardy right tackle Aycock right guard Hullinger center Allen left guard Colton left end Walker fullback and Caldwell left halfback QUALIFIED for a state semifinal game with Provo High but Provo destroyed Uintah's state stale hopes with a 19 to 0 victory Provo scored in the first two minutes and then added touchdowns touchdowns touch touch- downs in both the third and fourth quarters Uintah came close to scoring in the game They drove to Provos Provo's 10 yard line and then fumbled to kill that drive Later they reached the Provo 20 yard line Then the Provo Bulldogs held the Utes and prevented Uintah from scoring IN lN 1931 Uintah had as returning players George Alexander Howard Noel Lawrence Colton Clifford Caldwell Muford Aycock Charles Oakes Floyd Allen Lowell Fox and Hollis Hullinger Hullinger was noted by the Vernal Express on September 10 as the brother of the famous Hullinger who played tackle at BYU a few years before 1931 The coach of the squad was Cal Davis Some of the other members of the team were Hardy Galloway Walker N N.
