Show Problems overlooked Dear Editor I feel deeply concerned about many problems in this community None of us have all the answers however I notice there have been many questions overlooked We should all be questioning the actions or functions of the system because through these means we make it better There are many reasons for drug abuse but some become more obvious than others One reason which has been established is that the drug scene is an impotent protest Isn't this revolutionary protest against conformity and the fear of change Where are the roots of the problem the home or the attitudes of everyone Many young people ask How can law enforcement function when many of its it's members are as emotionally immature as the people it puts behind bars Then they ask Why is marijuana against the law it hasn't hurt anyone with 26 million Americans doing it and so much corruption at higher levels of government why is pot illegal Then law enforcement says Were in the middle in inconstant inconstant constant contact with the ills of society why cant can't people obey the laws we are here to enforce We have no alternative but to stamp out crime Each side feels justified in its motives and fails to understand those of the other Doesn't each side continue to mistake the spirit of obsession for justice or divine will and nd become ever evermore evermore evermore more fanatical As with most problems we can be objective or it will end in a crisis Isn't the drug problem a result of our inability to sincerely communicate with others I feel we should concentrate on the needs of the young people We need recreation centers we need to encourage the arts more than we have and we need to start planning for a college Dont Don't we have a happy valley syndrome here Dont Don't we think if we ignore the problems they will go away Can we deny there are thousands of communities this size which have learned to flow with wilh change instead of fight against it Arent Aren't there man many questions which haven't been asked Will the drug problem be ignored until there is open rebellion here Can we honestly keep alienating young people from the law What are the productive improvements we must make I would like to see more opinions expressed in hope we can get these problems into open discussion and bridge the ever widening gap of misun misun- Sincerely NOLAN |
