F ii AWARDS ARE NOTHING NEW to Georg Johnston Johnstun n as he displays 45 earned at al the Salt Lake Tribune garden show recently Note the lamp center of the picture re This Is a new project f for or M Mr r. r Johnstun and Is made mode of wood FloW Flower r and cr crafts artist 1 brings hm homes aw awards For 21 years George J Johnstun of Vernal has entered the Salt Lake Tribune flower and craft show and has always returned home with honors This year was no different Mr Johnstun received 45 awards at the Salt Palace including two silver trays and numerous ribbons THE TIIE THEME this year for forthe forthe forthe the flower-craft flower show was Bicentennial One of Mr creations Winter at Valley Forge placed with a purple ribbon He had several other creations following the theme that took red blue and yellow r ribbons There were approximately persons who attended the four day show Entries were from throughout the intermountain west According to Mr Johnstun the contestants have two weeks to prepare their floral entries after being assigned a theme Mr Johnstun who was born October 24 1897 has had crafts and flowers in competition since 1917 when he won his first recognition with a vase made of bark and a table he constructed at the saw mill where he was employed i NOW RETIRED he is putting his rus skills learned as a carpenter to use in making unique vases lamps tables etc The intricate des ignes are original and vary from swirls to illusions Mr Johnstun's talent end with carpentry and floral arrangements he is also a fine artist although he explained I dont don't have the time to devote to drawing and painting He also raises a large garden and lots of flowers in the summer time |
